Alex completed his B.S. in biological systems engineering at Virginia Tech in 2016. As an undergraduate Alex conducted research on toe regeneration with Dr. Jia-Qiang He. Before graduate school Alex worked as a research assistant with Dr. Pamela VandeVord, where his research project focused on preclinical models of traumatic brain injury. He then completed his Ph.D. at the University of Florida under the supervision of Dr. Benjamin Keselowsky and Dr. Dorina Avram. Being co-mentored allowed him to train in both engineering and immunology. His dissertation work utilized an antigen dual-sized microparticle system to treat a mouse model of multiple sclerosis. Alex joined the Wilson Lab in November of 2022, and his work will focus on using biomaterials to modulate the immune system for both activating and tolerizing applications. Outside of the lab Alex enjoys playing and watching sports.
