OUTREACH

Our training mission is to develop independent and creative thinkers with knowledge and technical acumen that bridges molecular engineering and immunobiology to prepare trainees for successful research careers. Our lab provides a a unique and dynamic environment that prepares trainees for research careers at the cutting-edge of the rapidly expanding immunoengineering field. Our group is culturally and scientifically diverse, ensuring a vibrant, dynamic, and intellectually stimulating environment that provides a wide range of resources and expertise that equips trainees to advance their research and scientific careers. Our commitment to mentoring is evidenced by the success of our trainees in earning competitive awards and fellowships, including the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship, NIH T32 training grants, NIH NRSA fellowships, and fellowships from foundations such as the Susan G. Komen Foundation and PhRMA Foundation.

We are also committed to providing undergraduate students with research opportunities, including through the VINSE REU program, allow students to apply what they learn in the classroom to solving problems in the laboratory while expanding their research skills and preparation for graduate school. Finally, we work closely with several programs on campus such as the Vanderbilt Student Volunteers for Science and the School for Science and Math at Vanderbilt to bring hands-on science lessons to local middle schools and to provide high school students with authentic and immersive research experiences that cultivate excitement for STEM topics and establish foundations in the scientific method.
