Mia is a second-year Ph.D. student in the department of Biomedical Engineering at Vanderbilt University. She is from Midway, North Carolina, and she completed her B.S.E. in Biomedical Engineering with a minor in Mathematics at Duke University in 2024 as a Trinity Scholar. During her undergraduate studies, Mia worked in Dr. Joel Collier’s group, where she engineered self-assembling peptide nanofiber vaccines for immunological tolerance. Her project on the gastrointestinal delivery of alpha-helical supramolecular peptides earned her the title of Pratt Research Fellow, as well as graduation with departmental distinction and a Howard G. Clark award for exceptional independent research. Upon graduation, Mia earned a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship to continue her education. Her desire to investigate the intersection of biomaterials and immunology led her to Dr. John T. Wilson’s Immunoengineering Lab at Vanderbilt University. Mia joined the lab in the summer of 2024 as a Vanderbilt Doctoral Discovery Fellow. She plans to continue researching biomaterial-based strategies for restoring immune tolerance in autoimmune diseases. In her free time, Mia enjoys cooking, thrifting, and exploring Nashville.
